Decorative Glass - Helpful Information

It could be said that all glass is decorative in some way so we have tried to make things as simple as possible and included glass that has highly decorative elements in this part of our site.

Annealed Glass is not safety glass, it breaks into sharp, hazardous, shards. Toughened Glass is a stronger, safety glass that breaks into small relatively harmless pieces:

  • Textured Glass – This range of glass usually features raised designs, offering varying levels of privacy. The glass can be toughened.
  • Etched Glass – The designs on Etched glass are created by applying acid to the surface of the glass to create a permanent pattern. The effect is smoother than sandblasted glass and the glass can be toughened.
  • Tinted Glass - Tinted glass has small amounts of colour pigment added to the raw glass materials in the float glass process. It gives a subtle hue to the glass. Tinted glass can be toughened.
  • Painted Glass – As the name suggests this glass is painted but only on one side, giving a high gloss coloured glass that has many applications. All our painted glass comes with polished (smooth) edges and dubbed (slightly rounded off) corners as standard. Painted glass can be toughened.
  • Satin Glass – This is a white frosted looking glass which is created by applying acid to the surface of the glass which gives a smooth and even finish.
  • Sandblasted Glass – Sandblasted designs are produced by spraying sand at high velocities over the surface of the glass. This gives the glass a translucent surface, which is usually rougher than that obtained by etching. During sandblasting, areas that are to remain transparent are masked for protection. The depth and degree of the translucency of the sand-blasted finishing vary with the force and type of sand used.
